Ralphs Grocery, the popular Southern California-based grocery chain, faced the challenge of updating the look and design of their current signage and hardware program while simplifying its manufacturing and distribution system. Their service department signs are a critical marketing element because they display highly descriptive text known as “romance” language to help promote perishable and higher-value products, such as those in the Deli, Liquor, Seafood, Meat, Produce and Bakery departments. Ralphs needs included an attractive new design for these signs, stylish and durable hardware that accommodated to each department’s merchandising specifications, as well as an easy and quick system for generating new signage, ordering it, and promptly shipping the signs and hardware to the appropriate store.
To accomplish these objectives, NHaK enlisted the help of sister company, Insteo, a fully-automated online management and publishing system. Through a centralized database that can be accessed by clients and their users via the internet, new signs can be quickly created, and price or product description updates can be applied with a real-time preview of the final sign before ordering. Signs and hardware can be ordered individually, by department, or storewide.
The Insteo system generates nearly 4,000 individually customized signs per store and is equipped to fully stock an entire store within a 48-hour turnaround time. The reusable signs are printed on a durable, laminated cardstock to withstand the heat and endure water sprayers.
